Pushpa 2 actor Allu Arjun arrested by police over Hyderabad stampede that killed one

Telugu film actor Allu Arjun was on Friday arrested by Hyderabad police in connection with the death of a woman during the premiere of his latest flick 'Pushpa 2: The Rise', official sources said. The actor was taken into custody, amid tight security, from his residence and taken to Chikkadpally police station in a police vehicle.

The stampede had left a 39-year-old woman dead and her son critically injured.

Revathi, a resident of Dilsukhnagar, attended the event with her husband Bhaskar and their two children. According to police reports, the chaos had unfolded around 10:30 pm when fans surged to catch a glimpse of Allu Arjun, who was present at the screening. The overwhelming crowd had caused suffocation and injuries.

Videos circulating online had showed police and bystanders attempting to help Revathi, who collapsed during the commotion. CPR was administered before she was rushed to the hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries.

Her son, who was also caught in the stampede, was transferred to a super-speciality hospital and remains in critical condition.

Following the incident, the production team had released an official statement addressing the tragedy.

Mythri Movie, the film's production house, posted on X: "We are extremely heartbroken by the tragic incident during last night's screening. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the young child undergoing medical treatment. We are committed to standing by them and extending all possible support during this difficult time. With deep sorrow."

Pushpa 2: The Rule is the sequel to the 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. Directed by Sukumar, the film features Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, and an ensemble cast. The movie was released on December 5 across over 10,000 screens globally.
