Hyderabad and Bengaluru are witnessing higher-than-usual temperatures
Both Bengaluru and Hyderabad are experiencing warmer-than-usual conditions, with weather experts blaming it on effects of El Nino. Telangana faces an early onset of summer due to rising temperatures and the absence of cold waves for the first time in five years. Winter departure in Hyderabad usually occurs by Feb third week, this year it has already begun early. Since the beginning of February, Bengaluru has experienced temperatures seen higher-than-average temperatures, causing discomfort, particularly during afternoons. Although this may seem unusually warm for February, the Bengaluru office of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) suggests it's within the normal range based on the city's 30-year averages. According to A Prasad, a scientist at IMD Bengaluru, slight deviations of 1-2 degrees Celsius are not considered abnormal, attributing the recent warmth to the strong El Nino effect and global warming.

Prasad warns that the upcoming summer may be more severe than last year, with the possibility of a heatwave in coastal Karnataka in early March, although no heatwave is forecasted for the next seven days.

Meanwhile, Telangana has also felt the impact of rising temperatures, with maximum temperatures already reaching 35 degrees Celsius just one week into February. The state is bidding farewell to winter earlier than usual, experiencing temperatures 1-3 degrees Celsius above normal, signaling an early onset of summer with minimal spring. Unlike previous years, this winter has not witnessed any cold wave days, indicating a departure from the norm.

A Sravani, a scientist at IMD, attributes Telangana's early transition to warmer temperatures and the persistent El Nino effect, warning of maximum temperatures potentially reaching 37 degrees Celsius by the end of February, with departures from normal temperatures expected by 1-2 degrees Celsius.
