Hospitalisation of children with Covid in Hyderabad is going up, a Times of India report stated. Majority of the cases have mild symptoms.

Doctors are saying that the children getting infected may have picked up the infection from one of their family members, the report said.

"When we are testing kids, who have another family member unwell, nearly 50 per cent of them are testing positive. While usually such symptoms would not be checked, but now that the third wave as started, this is a cue for testing," the TOI report quoted Dr Preetam Kumar Reddy, consultant paediatrician and neonatologist, Rainbow Hospitals, as saying.

A doctor who spoke to TOI said that the majority of cases are outpatient or online consultations while 3-4 admission in last few days have been for non-invasive oxygen support due to respiratory distress.

Another doctor at Apollo Children's hospital said that the parents shouldn't self-diagnose and unless tested, every case of cold, cough or fever should be treated as a symptom of Covid-19.
