Wooden scrap being carried by the truck spilled all over the road and buried the Bolero underneath. The impact crushed the vehicle flat. Panic spread as people nearby were unsure how many occupants might be trapped inside. Passers-by raised alarms, prompting an emergency response.

Traffic police, teams from three police stations, the fire brigade and at least six ambulances rushed to the spot. Superintendent of police Vidyasagar Mishra and city circle officer Jitendra Kumar reached the scene to supervise rescue efforts.Authorities used a crane to lift the overturned truck and remove debris. His family has been informed,” SP Vidyasagar Mishra said, adding, “The truck driver fled the scene and efforts are on to trace him. Officials said the Bolero was attached on contract with the electricity department and allotted to the Khod power substation. Sub-divisional officer Nagendra Kumar said he had taken charge only two days earlier and was not using the vehicle on Sunday.
“On holidays, the driver usually gets the vehicle serviced. That is why the Bolero was with him,” he said.
After nearly an hour of clearing scattered wooden scrap and wreckage, police restored traffic on the highway.
