Hopeful of freedom of navigation & commerce: Modi
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed the understanding reached between the US and Iran to end the conflict in West Asia, saying India hoped the agreement would restore stability in the region and safeguard freedom of navigation and global commerce.

"I welcome the understanding reached between the United States and Iran on ending the conflict in West Asia, which has caused serious economic disruption across the world and led to loss of life in many countries. India hopes that the implementation of this understanding will help restore peace and stability in the region and ensure the freedom of navigation and commerce. We look forward to deliberations on the remaining issues reaching a sustainable final agreement," Modi wrote on X.

The issue of Indians getting killed by the US Navy following attack on vessels, the Hormuz situation and the impact of the war may figure during the US President and Modi's proposed meeting in France on Wednesday on the sidelines of the G7 meet.

The proposed agreement, which was reached to end war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, is due to be signed in Switzerland on June 19. The reopening of the Strait is expected to ease concerns across Asia.
