Srinagar: Climate activist from Ladakh, Sonam Wangchuk, hoped that the Supreme Court records a judgement in his case to guide future executive and policy makers on how to use laws like the National Security Act (NSA).

Wangchuk addressed his first press conference since his release from Jodhpur Jail after the BJP-led Centre ordered revocation of NSA invoked against him last September. He was accompanied by his wife Gitanjali Angmo and a team of lawyers.

"It would be a great win if the Supreme Court records a judgement in this case apart from the revocation order so that it guides future executive and policy makers about how to use and how not to use laws like NSA," said Wangchuk.

"We can look forward to a new beginning where trust is built, dialogue happens and through dialogue we get mutually satisfactory results. Talks involve a give and take process where both sides have to be considerate and flexible but it has to be a win-win situation," said Wangchuk. He is currently in New Delhi and hopes to go back to Ladakh soon and interact with the leadership of Apex Body Leh and Kargil Democratic Alliance.

He expects the people of Ladakh to take back their suspicion and doubts about how people died of injuries in their chest last September and the Centre to take back the cases filed against people of Ladakh for the incidents of September 24. "With this, the situation is restored for meaningful and constructive dialogue. The government should also undo FIRs and release two more people who are still in jail," Wangchuk said.

"Here, people are appealing to the government to come to the discussion table and start a constructive dialogue," said Wangchuk.
