CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke says hoisting the Tricolour is “not a crime” as the party plans a flag-hoisting event at Delhi’s Connaught Place on October 16.
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activist Abhijeet Dipke on Thursday reiterated that the party would go ahead with its planned flag-hoisting event in Delhi, saying the Tricolour was a matter of national pride and hoisting it was “not a crime”.

Speaking to reporters in the national capital, Dipke said the plan to hoist the national flag remained unchanged despite questions over permissions, restrictions and the gathering of people at the venue.

“Tomorrow we are simply going to hoist the Tricolour. Our Tiranga is our pride, and hoisting the Tiranga is not a crime,” he said before being escorted away.

The CJP’s ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ initiative is now scheduled for Friday, October 16, at 5 pm at Central Park in Connaught Place. The event, originally planned for Thursday, was deferred following the arrests of CJP activists Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das and reports of possible action against Dipke.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has extended support to the call, with other organisations also expected to join the gathering.

Dipke also questioned the continued detention of Ranka and Das, who have been in custody for three days. In a post on X, he described their arrests as illegal and said the two had given up comfortable lives to fight for change.

“Imagine being jailed in your own country for waving your own national flag,” he wrote.

On Wednesday, Dipke had appealed to people to gather at Central Park with the Tricolour at 5 pm on October 16. He said the event would demonstrate that waving the national flag was not a crime.

Dipke added that he was not worried about the possibility of being jailed for making the appeal and reiterated his resolve to hoist the flag.

“I might be jailed after this, but I am not worried about that. The Tricolour is my pride, and I will certainly hoist it,” he said.
