During the flushing, the silt accumulated in the dam would be flushed out into the Beas river, they said.
According to Superintending Engineer of Sarabai circle of Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB), Narinder Thakur under whose jurisdiction the Larji Dam falls, a pre-monsoon flushing started early morning on Sunday and it will take around 24 hours to put the power house to resume power generation.

All five gates of the dam will be opened in controlled manner and generation of electricity will be halted as the water will be not allowed to enter in to the power house, he told PTI.
Security measures are in place as around 2000 cusec water are released into the river, he said, adding that Pre monsoon flushing is an essential part of smooth electrical generations.
The water level of beas river downstream from Larji to Pandoh, a 10 km long stretch, will rise. From Pandoh, the water of the river has been diverted to Sundernagar in a tunnel, which will be used in the 990 MW Beas-Satluj Link Project.
All precautions have been taken to alert the public residing downstream of Beas river by using mobile van sirens and other modes which were put in to service an hour prior to releasing to water, Thakur said.

Around 15 to 20 persons were engaged in the flushing operation in addition to the employees working in shift at the Larjii power house.
Flushing will be done in the first four to five hours, and in next eight hours the dam will be cleaned. After that, the filling water in the reservoir will be resumed so that all the three generators could start generating electricity, he said.
