Shimla: A total of 85 roads have been blocked in Himachal Pradesh as persistent rainfall affects various parts of the state, and the Shimla Meteorological Office has predicted a wet spell lasting until September 11.

Light to moderate rain occurred in a few places in Himachal. Dharamshala recorded 30.2 mm of rain in the past 24 hours since Friday evening, followed by Olinda (20 mm), Raipur Maidan (18 mm), Nahan (17.4 mm), Jot (12.6 mm) and Palampur (12 mm).

Thunderstorms and lightning lashed Kangra, Jot, Murari Devi and Sundernagar, the weather office said, adding that the wet spell in the state is expected to continue till September 11.


The maximum number of blocked roads is in the Mandi district, where 45 roads are closed. Other districts affected include Kullu with 15 blocked roads, Kangra with 8, Solan with 6, Sirmaur and Una with 4 each, Shimla with 2, and Lahaul-Spiti with 1 road closure.

Additionally, 29 power transformers and 51 water supply schemes have been hit, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

Since the onset of the monsoon on June 30, at least 110 people have died statewide in rain-related incidents, while the state has suffered losses amounting to Rs 1,242 crore, officials said.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest at night, recording a low of 11 degrees Celsius, while Bhuntar in Kullu district was the hottest during the day with a high of 32.7 degrees Celsius.
