The Bareilly police have introduced an AI-powered virtual public relations officer modeled after JARVIS, the AI assistant from Marvel's Iron Man. This digital officer interacts with the public online, representing a new approach to community engagement. The concept was spearheaded by ADGP (Bareilly zone) Ramit Sharma, who envisioned leveraging AI to create a relatable and efficient interface for public interaction. Sharma, an IIT-Kanpur graduate in electrical engineering, led the project with meticulous attention to detail, a TOI report stated.

A nod to Marvel’s ingenuity

“JARVIS, in the comics, is an intelligent natural language user interface created by Tony Stark to tackle challenges in extraordinary ways,” Sharma told TOI. “In our context, SI Jarvis is a virtual public relations officer — our very own digital Avenger.”

Unlike fictional superheroes, Sharma said SI Jarvis embodies a grounded approach, blending advanced AI capabilities with a human touch. Its social media presence demonstrates a confident and approachable persona, akin to Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Crafting a digital ally

Developing SI Jarvis was a complex process. “From perfecting the AI’s voice to designing Jarvis’s appearance, it involved a lot of trial and error,” Sharma said. The result is an AI officer that reflects community values while making technology accessible.

The virtual officer’s role includes guiding commuters on traffic rules and educating teenagers about their rights and responsibilities. Sharma envisions expanding this initiative by introducing more AI-driven entities tailored to specific community needs. “We may create a young, approachable friend to interact with teenagers,” he added.

A step toward futuristic policing

This initiative marks a significant milestone in integrating technology into law enforcement. While SI Jarvis doesn’t possess Marvel-like superpowers, its ability to engage citizens effectively demonstrates the potential of AI in modern policing. Bareilly’s AI officer represents a fusion of creativity and functionality, proving that innovative solutions can emerge from imaginative inspiration.
