Heavy rain warnings have been issued for Assam and Meghalaya and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, while thunderstorm activity is expected over parts of north, east, central and southern India.
Guwahati: Heavy showers lashed parts of Meghalaya, with Mawsynram town in the state's East Khasi Hills district receiving 530 mm of rain in 24 hours. The Shillong Dawki road is cut off owing the landslide.

East khasi hills district administration stated, " Information has been received that there is a major landslide along the Shillong-Dawki road at Chainage which has resulted in complete cut-off of the road ahead of the main Laitlyngkot village. NHIDCL has informed that repair and restoration of the road will take a few days to complete. The road along the Shillong-Dawki road will remain closed for public and vehicular movement from Laitlyngkot village onwards with immediate effect and until further notice by the District Administration. Avoid travelling through the Shillong–Dawki Road beyond Laitlyngkot Village during the period of road closure."


The district administration stated ,"Rainwater washed away a portion of the road below Laitlyngkot town, around 35 km south of Shillong. No injuries were reported in the incident. "

Heavy rainfall was also recorded at Shella (100 mm), Williamnagar (90 mm), Mawryngkneng (90 mm), Jowai (80 mm), Barapani (70 mm) and Ratacherra (70 mm), weather department data showed.
