Weather Alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in the Jammu region for the next two days. Authorities said water levels in the Basantar, Tawi, and Chenab rivers have reached the alert mark. Residents and visitors have been advised to stay away from riverbanks, low-lying zones, and landslide-prone hillsides.

Landslide at Vaishno Devi Route

The weather has already triggered disruptions. On Tuesday, a landslide struck the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route in Reasi district, leaving at least four pilgrims injured. The incident occurred near the Gulshan Ka Langar area, a key point for pony riders close to Banganga. Rescue teams were rushed to the site, and the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals.

Authorities temporarily suspended battery car, cable car, and helicopter services to the shrine as a precaution. Several trains from Katra were also cancelled after flash floods disrupted connectivity on the Jammu-Pathankot highway.

Government & Rescue Measures

  • Control rooms in all districts are fully operational, coordinating relief efforts.
  • Disaster response teams are deployed to monitor rising river levels and landslide-prone zones.
  • Pilgrims have been strongly advised to delay travel to the shrine until conditions improve.
