Relief from heat
Heavy rains and thunderstorms early on Monday morning brought a much-needed respite from the lengthy spell of sweltering heat in Delhi.

Traffic snarls at many places
But the rains and strong winds also affected road and air traffic during the morning rush hours. Traffic snarls were reported from many areas. Trees were uprooted in some parts of the capital.

Severe waterlogging
Waterlogging caused traffic snarls on various stretches including the ITO, DND, Narsinghpur-Jaipur Road and near AIIMS. Waterlogging was also reported from the Pul Prahladpur underpass at Narsinghpur and at Vasant Vihar.

Falling trees damage vehicles
At least eight vehicles parked on the roadside were damaged due to tree falling on them. incidents were reported from New Moti Bagh, Delhi Cantonment and Dhaula Kuan areas, but nobody was injured.

Some houses damaged
Some houses were also damaged in the strong winds. Incidents of house collapse reported from Jawalpuri, Gokalpuri, Shankar Road and Moti Nagar areas. Eight people were injured.

Minimum temperature dips
Delhi over the past few weeks has been reeling under a series of heatwaves, with maximum temperatures on one day crossing 49 degrees. The rains got the minimum temperature to plummet from 29 degrees Celsius to 18 degrees Celsius.

The weather department says this is the first moderate-intensity storm of this season for the national capital. It also disrupted flight operations at the Delhi airport.
