The gushing waters carried mud and debris sweeping through several localities in the Thathri area damaging dozens of residential houses, commercial establishments and vehicles. Some vehicles were reportedly washed away in the deluge.
"Spoke with the district commissioner, Doda, to assess the situation following the cloudburst in Thathri region. While several houses and shops have suffered damage, fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported," said J&K LG Manoj Sinha.
He directed the administration to ensure immediate relief and assistance to the affected families and expedite restoration work, including the clearance of NH 244. Officials said landslides and mudslides triggered by incessant rain blocked Doda-Kishtwar National Highway (NH 244) at multiple locations, disrupting vehicular movement.
Officials said teams have been pressed into service to clear the debris and restore traffic on the highway, while assessment of the damage caused is underway. There were no immediate reports of any loss of life, while the administration is closely monitoring the situation.
