Delhi rains: IMD has forecast intense showers on Tuesday and Thursday
The national capital region of Delhi is anticipated to experience intense rainfall from Tuesday through Thursday, according to a recent forecast by the Meteorological Department (IMD). A 'yellow' alert has been issued for August 6-8, signaling the need for vigilance regarding the expected rain. Safdarjung has recorded a total of 114.1 mm of rainfall so far this August, with a significant 107.6 mm falling on August 1 alone due to heavy rain. This amount is noteworthy given that the average rainfall for the entire month of August is 233.1 mm. In contrast, July ended with a rainfall deficit of 3%, receiving 203.7 mm compared to the normal of 209.7 mm.

Current Weather Systems and Impact


According to the India Meteorological Department, a deep depression over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjacent south Uttar Pradesh has weakened into a depression as of 5:30 AM IST on August 5. It has been moving west-northwestward at 22 kmph, and as of 8:30 AM IST, it was located over northeast Rajasthan, near Jaipur. The system is expected to continue moving in a west-northwest direction and further weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours.


Forecast for Surrounding Regions


Significant rainfall and thunderstorms are predicted for several regions including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is likely throughout the week. The anticipated rainfall could lead to minor traffic disruptions, increased chances of vehicle accidents, and water accumulation in low-lying areas and on roads, IMD warned.

  • August 5: The temperature will range from a minimum of 26°C to a maximum of 35°C with generally cloudy skies, light rain, and thunderstorms with strong surface winds.
  • August 6: Expect a minimum of 27°C and a maximum of 34°C with generally cloudy skies and moderate rain.
  • August 7: The temperature will be between 27°C and 33°C with generally cloudy skies and moderate rain.
  • August 8: Minimum temperature of 26°C and a maximum of 32°C with generally cloudy skies and moderate rain.
  • August 9: The temperature will range from 25°C to 33°C with generally cloudy skies and light rain.
  • August 10: Expect temperatures between 25°C and 34°C with rain or thundershowers.
  • August 11: The forecast predicts a temperature range of 25°C to 33°C with rain or thundershowers.
