The Calcutta High Court on Monday formed a three-member committee for rehabilitation of victims of violence that followed Assembly polls in West Bengal.

The panel will have a representative each from the State Human Rights Commission and National Human Rights Commission, and member secretary of the State Legal Services Authority.

The interim order on post-poll violence was passed by the court's five-judge bench comprising acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justices IP Mukerji, Harish Tandon, Soumen Sen and Subrata Talukdar. The rehabilitation of people displaced because of poll violence will be carried out in coordination with the police.

The next hearing on the matter will be held on June 4. The bench was hearing a petition filed by advocate Priyanka Tibrewal who alleged that more than 200 people were displaced due to post-poll violence and were unable to return to their homes.

Largescale violence was reported in the state following the declaration of Assembly poll results, which gave TMC a whopping majority.

The court observed that the committee will hear the victims of poll violence and consider the matter individually.
