The Haryana government on Tuesday bestowed Z plus security for Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The BJP government had released him from Rohtak's Sunaria jail on a 21-day furlough on February 7, ahead of the Punjab polls.

The security cover followed reports of threat to his life from 'pro-Khalistan activists'. Ram Rahim was convicted for the murder of former journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati and rape of two Dera disciples and awarded life imprisonment by a special CBI court in Panchkula in 2017. The state provides security to an individual based on a comprehensive threat assessment.
