Haryana: 1.7 lakh, including 40,000 graduates, apply for temporary govt sweeper job paying Rs 15,000 per month
Over 1.2 lakh candidates, including postgraduates and graduates, have applied for the contractual sweeper position in Haryana government departments. The job offers Rs 15,000 a month, attracting many due to the stability of a government job amidst...

Manish Kumar, a postgraduate with a diploma in business studies, and his wife Roopa, a qualified teacher, are among the applicants. They note that jobs in private schools and companies offer a meager Rs 10,000 a month, making the government job more appealing.
"Even in private schools or companies, we barely get Rs 10,000 a month. Here, there's a glimmer of hope for regular employment in future. Plus, sweeping isn't a full-day job, so we can pursue other work during the day," said Manish.
Sumitra, a resident of Rohtak's Sukhpura Chowk, also applied due to repeated failures in securing a government job through the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC). For her, this job represents a last resort.
"This is the only job left that I could apply for with any hope of a positive response. My family has refused to fund further studies or coaching, so employment is my lone option now," said Sumitra.
Opposition parties have criticized the situation, highlighting the large number of applications as evidence of the BJP government's inability to address the unemployment crisis. The Haryana Congress has pointed to this influx of applications to argue that the unemployment situation has worsened under the current administration.
HKRN is also facing criticism for alleged non-transparency, inadequate remuneration, job insecurity, and the absence of reservations for various categories, compounding the concerns around the recruitment process.
