The action comes following threats of unrest in the national capital ahead of Republic Day on January 26.
Pannu had reportedly released a video on social media claiming that pro-Khalistan posters had been put up in Rohini and Dabri areas of Delhi through sleeper cells, ANI said. However, police investigations have so far not found any such posters at the locations mentioned.
In another development, members of SFJ allegedly trespassed and vandalised the Indian embassy in Zagreb, Croatia, attempting to replace the national Tricolour with a "Khalistan flag," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. The government has raised the issue with Croatian authorities and demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
"We condemn the incident of trespassing and vandalism at our embassy in Zagreb, Croatia, by anti-India elements," the MEA said in a statement, citing the Vienna Convention that obliges host countries to protect diplomatic premises. The ministry added that such actions reflect the motives of the perpetrators and that law enforcement authorities worldwide should take note.
SFJ chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun claimed the act was timed ahead of India’s Republic Day, marking it as the first such incident in 40 years. Indian agencies have also intercepted chatter referring to potential plots on Indian soil by the group around Republic Day.
