Gurgaon residents and businesses to get lower electricity bills. Read why
Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has revised its electricity load norms for residential and commercial uses in Gurgaon, potentially leading to lower bills. The total electricity supply available to a meter, measured in kW, has been recalibrated ...

A senior official told ToI: "Consumers will be billed the minimum amount linked to their load if their consumption remains below the prescribed limit. This revision translates to reduced expenses, with group housing society residents experiencing up to 16% lower electricity load charges and commercial consumers benefiting by as much as 43%. However, those whose consumption matches or exceeds the load threshold will remain unaffected."
DHBVN's Managing Director, Amit Khatri, said that the revised norms are a response to directives received from the Chief Minister following last year's Urban Development Conclave. The relaxation of existing load norms for plots has been enacted in alignment with the review of residential sectors, colonies, flats, shopping centers, and industrial plots.
The new load norms dictate that plots spanning 2 marlas will have power loads of 6kW for class A cities, 4kW for class B cities, and 2kW for class C areas. Likewise, 2-kanal plots will accommodate loads of 40kW for class A, 30kW for class B, and 25kW for class C areas. Class A cities encompass hyper-urban regions such as Gurgaon-Manesar Urban Complex, Faridabad-Ballabgarh Complex, and Gwalpahari-Balola Bandhwari Complex. Class B cities include Hisar, Palwal, Hodal, Rewari, and Dharuhera-Bawal, while all other urban areas fall into class C.
Group housing societies with EWS flats up to 350 square feet will retain a 3kW load. For medium-income group flats ranging from 351 sq ft to 1,450 sq ft, load parameters have been set between 4kW and 8kW, as opposed to the previous limit of 10kW. High-income group apartments spanning 1,451-3,000 sq ft now have a prescribed load of 10kW-16kW, compared to the earlier range of 12kW-18kW. Ultra-luxury apartments measuring 3,001 sq ft to 4,000 sq ft or more are expected to accommodate a load of 18kW-20kW, down from the previous 20kW.
Distinct load norms have also been introduced for industrial plots. High-density commercial areas with 'green' rated buildings are allocated a load of 12kW per 100 sqm of the approved FAR, while high-density, 'non-green' structures now bear a prescribed load of 14kW per 100 sqm.
