Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said Gujarat will soon become a hub for manufacturing semiconductors, adding that the state has already made a name for itself in several sectors like textiles, petrochemicals and pharmaceuticals.

"Today's young generation has not seen those days when curfews were imposed here almost every day. It was difficult to do business here. An atmosphere of unrest was maintained. Ahmedabad is one of the safest cities in the country and you all have done this," Modi said.

He said that this had led to positive results where all kinds of industries are expanding in the state and termed the state as a manufacturing hub.

Modi said that Gujarat exports metro coaches and produces electric locomotive coaches, adding that the state is also known for large-scale production of cars and motorcycles, with both Indian and global companies setting up factories in the region.

"Previously, Gujarat had already ventured into the manufacturing of aeroplane components. Now, in Vadodara, the development of transport aircraft has also begun," Modi said.

The prime minister held a roadshow in Ahmedabad before launching projects worth Rs 5,477 crore.

'Interest of people paramount'

Talking about US tariffs, Modi said that the interests of people are paramount for him, adding that the government will not let any harm come to the small entrepreneurs, farmers, and animal keepers no matter how much pressure is put.

"Today in the world, everyone is busy doing politics based on economic interests. From this land of Ahmedabad, I will tell my small entrepreneurs, my small shopkeeper brothers and sisters, my farmer brothers and sisters, my animal husbandry brothers and sisters and I am saying this on the land of Gandhi. Be it the small entrepreneurs, farmers, or animal keepers of my country, for everyone, I promise you again and again, your interests are paramount for Modi," he said.

India progressing on the path of development

Modi said Gandhiji had shown the path of prosperity of India through Swadeshi but the "fact is that the party that enjoyed power for decades in his name crushed the soul of Bapum".

"What did it do with Bapu's mantra of Swadeshi? Today, you would not have heard the words Swachhata or Swadeshi from the mouths of those who drive their vehicles day and night in the name of Gandhi for the last several years. This country is not able to understand what has happened to their understanding?."

He added that the Congress party kept India dependent on other countries to indulge in import scams. "Today, however, India has made Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance), the foundation for building a developed nation. With the strength of our farmers, labourers, and cattle rearer, India is rapidly progressing on the path of development."

'Operation Sindoor a symbol of valour '

Modi termed Gujrat as the land of two "Mohans", Lord Krishna and Mahatma Gandhi, adding that the country continues to grow stronger by following the path laid down by these two.
