Car Swept 1.5 km Away by Strong Currents
The couple’s car was carried 1.5 km away from the causeway as the Karol River swelled to dangerous levels, according to fire officer Kamal Patel. The vehicle was almost fully submerged, with only the roof visible.“The couple managed to climb onto the roof of the car and waited there for nearly two hours before we could rescue them,” Patel said.
Rescue Efforts Hampered by Strong Currents
Initial rescue attempts were delayed due to the strong current, which made it impossible to approach the couple. Crowds gathered on the riverbanks to watch as the fire department waited for the water level to decrease.“A rescue team with a boat was on its way when we managed to bring them to safety,” Patel added.
Victim's Account of the Incident
Suresh Mistry, who was driving the car, said he decided to cross the causeway after seeing another vehicle successfully pass. “As we were crossing, the water rose, and the current became so strong that our car got swept away for about 1.5 km,” Mistry said, noting that he immediately called the fire brigade and police for help. The couple was safely rescued without any injuries.
