Death toll in the collapse of a bridge over the Mahisagar river in Gujarat's Vadodara district rose to 18 on Thursday. The search operation for the missing persons will resume on Friday as two persons are still missing.

Authorities said while NDRF and SDRF teams are conducting searches in the river, thick layer of mud and rain is making the process difficult. A few vehicles are still submerged in the river.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took to social media to point out that this is the seventh case of bridge collapse in Gujarat since 2021.

"According to information, the bridge was described as dangerous due to vibrations three years ago, but nothing was done about it," Kharge alleged.
