GRAP-3 lifted in Delhi-NCR, but curbs continue: What’s allowed, what’s not
Delhi-NCR sees a welcome improvement in air quality, leading to the revocation of GRAP-3 restrictions. While GRAP-1 and GRAP-2 measures remain in effect, authorities are hopeful these steps will prevent a decline in air quality during the Diwali p...

In an order, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) improved to 332 on Thursday, prompting the relaxation of GRAP-3 curbs. The commission added that weather forecasts indicate the AQI is likely to remain in the ‘moderate’ to ‘poor’ category over the next few days.
GRAP-1 and GRAP-2 restrictions remain in force
While GRAP-3 restrictions have been lifted for now, Delhi-NCR will continue to remain under GRAP-1 and GRAP-2 measures.
Under GRAP-2, the use of coal and firewood is restricted, and the operation of diesel generator sets faces limitations. Additional measures include mechanical sweeping and daily water sprinkling on major roads to control dust, along with steps to ease traffic congestion in high-density areas. Authorities said these steps are aimed at preventing a fresh deterioration in air quality during the critical Diwali period.
Measures under GRAP-1 continue
The GRAP-2 restrictions build on the measures already in place under GRAP-1, which include:
Mandatory water sprinkling at all construction and industrial sites
Intensified inspections of industries with high pollution potential
Stricter enforcement of CNG usage for public transport vehicles to curb vehicular emissions
