The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is evaluating options to improve connectivity between the Noida International Airport in Jewar and National Highway 34 (NH-34), which passes through Sikandrabad in Bulandshahr. The authority has begun discussions with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to explore potential route alignments and is preparing a detailed proposal for the project, a TOI report stated.

Before land acquisition began for the airport, the Jewar-Sikandrabad road provided a direct connection to Sikandrabad. However, the acquisition of 1,334 hectares across six villages for the first phase of the airport included a 3 km stretch of this road, disrupting access to Sikandrabad. In response, an alternative route through Jahangirpur and Jhajhar was constructed, but it adds several kilometers and passes through multiple villages.

Possible New Route from Airport to Khurja

Officials have indicated that one possible solution is to build a link road from the airport to Khurja, where NH-34 passes. However, the final route will depend on the results of a feasibility study and the detailed project report (DPR). "The final route, however, will depend on a feasibility study and the detailed project report," said an official involved in the project.

Importance of the New Connection

The new route is crucial for improving accessibility to the airport from surrounding districts. NH-34 is a key highway that connects important cities such as Haridwar, Meerut, and Bulandshahr, and stretches from Gangotri Dham in Uttarakhand to Lakhnadon in Madhya Pradesh. "While our initial discussions have been promising, the DPR will determine crucial aspects of the project, like route alignment, budget, and length of the link road," said Shailendra Bhatia, officer on special duty at YEIDA.

Current and Future Developments

Currently, the government’s connectivity efforts include a nearly complete 31 km stretch linking the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway with the airport. Additionally, the UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEDA) has proposed a new speedway connecting the Ganga Expressway with the airport. This proposed expressway would interface with Yamuna Expressway via NH-34 and pass through several villages in the YEIDA region, eventually connecting with the Yamuna Expressway near the proposed Film City.

Officials are carefully considering the alignment of these developments to avoid overlap with the new NH-34 connection. Closing the NH-34 connectivity gap is a priority for YEIDA, as it will create a more efficient transportation network around the airport, enhancing passenger convenience and driving regional development.
