Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Monday that his government and the dispensations in states where the BJP is in power are making all efforts to provide employment opportunities to the youth according to their area of interest and aptitude. He also underlined that 8 crore people -- most of them women, Dalits and tribals -- have benefited from the Mudra loans.

In a virtual address to the rozgar mela (employment fare) of Uttarakhand, Modi said the New Education Policy (NEP) is equipping the youth of today for important roles in the future.

"The Centre and the BJP government in Uttarakhand are making a constant effort to provide new opportunities of employment to the youth as per their interest and their abilities to help them progress," Modi said. BJP-ruled states and the Centre have begun organising rozgar melas and handing over appointment letters on a large scale.

He emphasised that the Mudra loan scheme, under which '10 L credit is provided without any guarantee, has helped in employment generation.

"Till now, '38 crore has been disbursed as Mudra loans across the country. About 8 crore youth have become entrepreneurs for the first time," he said. Most of these beneficiaries are women and youth belonging to the SC/ST/OBC category, he added.

In Uttarakhand, the Mudra loans have helped people open shops, dhabas, guesthouses, homestays and other such businesses. These loans have helped create jobs in the tourism sector and in self-employment.

Modi referred to an old saying in the mountains that their youth go to the plains for jobs and its water flows downhill, depriving these regions of the two resources. He said this should change and employment opportunities are being created in the hill states to retain the youth there.

New infrastructure projects in Uttarakhand have also created employment -- be it for engineers, raw material industry, construction workers and labour.
