Union Trade and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Friday the government's plans to strengthen safety standards for electric vehicles (EVs) in the country, as part of the broader effort to accelerate the growth of the EV sector. He was addressing the audience at the Start-up India event.

He further said electric vehicle mobility is ready and is expected to fly in India.

The minister also pointed out that India’s success in nurturing start-ups is a testament to the country’s growing innovation culture and the government’s supportive policies for new-age entrepreneurs. He also attributed the success of Start-up India to a conducive environment created by the government through initiatives like easier regulations, tax incentives, and access to venture capital.

"It was on August 15, 2015, when PM Modi announced the Start-up India Programme from the Red Fort. The programme was launched in 2016 and in 10 days, we will enter in the 10th year since this programme was initiated. There was a time when we used to glorify 1 or 2 start-up ideas and making it a global success story. Today, India is now the world's third largest start-up eco-system boosting over 110 unicorns. So, garage stories becoming unicorns fill our hearts with joy and makes us proud in terms of the success stories in such a short span of time," he said.

Speaking on India's economic times with the US, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that India is eager to further enhance its economic relations between the two countries, with a focus on strengthening trade ties and deepening collaboration between the two nations.
