Govt cuts ₹16,688 crore in tax disputes after appeal threshold hike

The estimated reduction in disputed tax demand stood at: ₹3,662.82 crore at ITAT level, ₹9,218.71 crore at HC level and ₹3,807.15 crore at SC level.
Following the revised limits, 443 cases before the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, 4,791 cases before HCs and 744 cases before the Supreme Court were withdrawn. In addition, appeals were not filed in 11,390 ITAT cases, 5,565 HC cases and 534 SC cases.
