Govt calls Delhi blast 'terror attack', vows zero tolerance

New Delhi: The government on Wednesday passed a resolution condemning the car blast near Delhi's Red Fort as a "heinous terrorist incident" and resolved to bring the perpetrators, their collaborators, and sponsors to justice.

The resolution was passed at the Union Cabinet meeting, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and profound grief was expressed over the loss of lives in the attack. The cabinet also observed a two-minute silence to pay respects to the victims.

"The country has witnessed a heinous terrorist incident perpetrated by anti-national forces through a car explosion near Red Fort on November 10," Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said during a Cabinet briefing, while sharing the details of the resolution.


"The Cabinet unequivocally condemns this dastardly and cowardly act that has led to the loss of innocent lives. The Cabinet reiterates India's unwavering commitment to a policy of zero-tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestation," the minister said, citing the resolution.

The Cabinet also recorded its appreciation for the statements of solidarity and support from many governments around the world, he added. Before the full Cabinet meeting, Modi also chaired a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting to review the current security situation and monitor the ongoing probe into the attack.
