According to the official statement, the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act of 1971 and the Flag Code of India, 2002 govern the hoisting, usage, and display of the Tricolor.

The announcement indicated that Tricolors manufactured of polyster, cotton, wool, silk, and khadi can be hoisted in accordance with the modified Flag Code. A citizen may raise the Tricolor both during the day and at night.The declaration also said that the national flag must have a rectangle shape and can be any size, but its length to height must equal 3:2.
