Government considers reallocating up to Rs 1 lakh crore to tackle rising food and fuel costs

Indian officials are considering reallocating up to Rs 1 lakh crore ($12 billion) from various ministries' budgets to manage food and fuel costs without impacting the federal deficit target. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will decide soon on a plan which may involve reducing taxes on local gasoline sales and easing import tariffs on cooking oil and wheat.
