At the daily inter-ministerial briefing, Special Secretary in the Ministry of Shipping, Rajesh Sinha said the waiver is intended to ensure smoother trade flows and reduce cost pressures on exporters dealing with disruptions in the region.
Official Spokesperson of MEA, Randhir Jaiswal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a call late in the evening from Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar. The two leaders discussed the evolving situation in West Asia, with both sides reiterating the importance of keeping shipping lines open and secure in the interest of the global community.

The government also moved to reassure citizens on fuel availability, stating that petrol pumps across the country have adequate stocks and there has been no increase in petrol or diesel prices. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas said sufficient crude oil is available at all domestic refineries and supply chains remain stable.
On cooking gas, the government said there is no “dry-out” at LPG distributorships. Domestic PNG connections remain a priority, and 5-kg LPG cylinders are being prioritised for migrant workers.
Officials noted that 92% of LPG bookings are being made online. While there has been a surge in demand, deliveries remain stable, they said, adding that there is no need for panic.

In Delhi, authorities have also removed road restoration charges to facilitate infrastructure-related works.
