Government announces 15-day Mundra port fee waiver for Middle East-bound exports amid West Asia crisis

The government on Tuesday announced a 15-day fee waiver at Mundra port for export containers bound for the Middle East, as part of measures to ease logistics and support exporters amid the ongoing West Asia crisis.

At the daily inter-ministerial briefing, Special Secretary in the Ministry of Shipping, Rajesh Sinha said the waiver is intended to ensure smoother trade flows and reduce cost pressures on exporters dealing with disruptions in the region.

Official Spokesperson of MEA, Randhir Jaiswal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a call late in the evening from Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar. The two leaders discussed the evolving situation in West Asia, with both sides reiterating the importance of keeping shipping lines open and secure in the interest of the global community.

The government also moved to reassure citizens on fuel availability, stating that petrol pumps across the country have adequate stocks and there has been no increase in petrol or diesel prices. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas said sufficient crude oil is available at all domestic refineries and supply chains remain stable.

Oil marketing companies (OMCs) are carrying out surprise inspections to ensure uninterrupted distribution, while enforcement agencies have seized around 2,000 LPG cylinders in raids to check irregularities.

On cooking gas, the government said there is no “dry-out” at LPG distributorships. Domestic PNG connections remain a priority, and 5-kg LPG cylinders are being prioritised for migrant workers.

Officials noted that 92% of LPG bookings are being made online. While there has been a surge in demand, deliveries remain stable, they said, adding that there is no need for panic.

In Delhi, authorities have also removed road restoration charges to facilitate infrastructure-related works.

The government emphasised that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain stability in fuel supplies, ensure smooth logistics, and safeguard trade flows amid the evolving situation in West Asia.
