A woman of Gorakhpur Mansha Devi, who has become Lakhpati Didi in one year after joining the Self-Help Group, run under Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission, will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on January 26. Mansha Devi, who once lived on a limited income, now works as an e-rickshaw trainer.

According to a press release, issued by the UP Information Department, Mansha works as a “Samuha Sakhi” in a self-help group. She had previously no source of income. After joining the Safe Mobility program, her life changed.

“Today, her monthly income has reached 20,000 to 30,000 rupees, resulting in a yearly income of approximately 2.5 to 3 lakh rupees. The Safe Mobility program is being implemented under an agreement between Development Alternatives and the Livelihood Mission, under the direction of Deepa Ranjan, Mission Director of the State Rural Livelihood Mission,” the release mentioned.

Mansha is credited to empower more than 60 women in Gorakhpur district, including the Brahmapur block, by providing them with driving, licensing, and entrepreneurship training.

The release said strong financial support from government schemes and a safe transportation environment have opened new avenues for women. These women, driving e-rickshaws on the roads with confidence and self-respect, are a testament to the changing socio-economic climate in the state.

The release said Mansha received Rs 1.25 lakh from the Mudra Scheme and Rs 1 lakh from the block level. Her work gained momentum. Sixty other women in her group now confidently drive e-rickshaws day and night in a safe environment.

Through mobility programs, women's safety, self-employment, and self-reliance are advancing simultaneously. “Mansha journey from “Samuha Sakhi” to e-rickshaw trainer is proof that, with the right policies, training, and opportunities, rural women can advance not only themselves but also society as a whole,” the release said.

Earlier, Mansha came to know about the schemes being run by the Yogi government. Through the Safe Mobility Program, she started earning a stable income. Now, Mansha earns between 800 and 1000 rupees per day. Mansha also started giving training to other women in her village.
