GOI representative for Naga political talks, AK Mishra arrived in Nagaland on Monday on a weeklong visit

In September last Mishra visited Nagaland to break the stalemate in talks with NSCN-IM. There was a deadlock as NSCN-IM had refused to sit in talks with then interlocutor and Nagaland governor RN Ravi. Ravi later moved in as Governor of Tamil Nadu.

During the visit he will meet the leadership of Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) and Working Committee of National Naga Political Groups (NNPG).

Government of India’s representative for Naga political talks, AK Mishra arrived in Nagaland on Monday on a weeklong visit.

During the visit he will meet the leadership of Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) and Working Committee of National Naga Political Groups (NNPG).

A senior official in Nagaland who does not want to be named tol ET, “He will also meet core committee members on Naga Political Issue headed by chief minister Neiphiu Rio.”

He had a meeting with NNPGs, NSCN-IM and Assam chief minister HImanta Biswa Sarma.

Last week Nagaland Chief minister Neiphu Rio met Prime minister Narendra Modi. Rio along with other members of the core committee met Union Home minister Amit Shah and urged the centre to expedite talks.

Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue comprises all the 60 Members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, and the two Members of Parliament from Nagaland. Parliamentary Core Committee on Naga Political Issue was in New Delhi seeking to expedite the ongoing talks with naga groups.

A conglomerate of seven groups, the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) have wrapped up discussion with the government of India.

However, there is a stalemate between the government of India and NSCN-IM over the contentious issue of separate flag and constitution. NSCN-IM has been demanding a separate flag and Constitution which the government of India had rejected.

Chairman of NSCN-IM, Q. Tuccu recently stated that the ball is now in the court of India as NSCN have made stand very loud and clear that the Naga political solution cannot be finalized without the Naga national flag and the Naga constitution (Yehzabo) that represents the Naga political entity as a nation.

NSCN-IM on Thursday last stated it has single handedly fought against India security forces. In a statement the outfit stated, “Let history be the living witness to testify that the NSCN stood alone at the hardest times of the Naga national struggle. We fought single-handedly against the mighty Indian security forces and also against the misguided Nagas (mercenaries) that were given shelter and made to operate from the Indian Army camps.”
