In a significant development for the Goa Police, Interpol has issued a Blue Corner Notice for the missing owners of the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub, where a devastating fire last week claimed 25 lives.

What stands out is the speed of the process — the notice was secured within just 48 hours of the tragedy. Typically, such requests take at least a week, but coordinated efforts between Goa Police and central agencies helped fast-track the issuance.

According to the police, the notice will aid in tracking the suspects and restrict them from travelling further from their current location.

The establishment is owned by brothers Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, who also run the Romeo Lane chain. Earlier on Tuesday, local authorities partially demolished the Romeo Lane outlet in Goa’s Vagator area.

The fire erupted in the early hours of Sunday at a nightclub in Arpora, leading to one of the worst such incidents in the state. A government-appointed panel is now probing the cause and lapses that led to the tragedy.

What is a Blue Corner Notice?

INTERPOL issues various types of notices to help law enforcement agencies across member countries share key information related to crimes and investigations. These notices are generated by Interpol’s General Secretariat after a request from a member nation’s National Central Bureau.

The Blue notice is meant to collect more details about a person’s identity, whereabouts, or activities connected to a criminal inquiry.

Besides, there are other types of noties including Red Notice that is to locate and arrest individuals wanted for prosecution or to serve a sentence while a Yellow Notice is issued to trace missing persons—especially children—or identify individuals unable to confirm their identity.

Other types of notices include:

Black Notice: To gather information about unidentified bodies.

Green Notice: Alerts member countries about someone with a history of criminal behaviour who may pose a threat.

Orange Notice: Warns about a person, object, or event that could pose an immediate risk to public safety.

Purple Notice: Shares details on criminal methods, tools, or concealment techniques.

Silver Notice (pilot): Helps identify and trace assets linked to criminal activities.
