Pramod Sawant, the chief minister of Goa, stated on Sunday that, if necessary, his administration is ready to hand over the case of BJP politician Sonali Phogat's death over to the CBI.

The body of Phogat (43), a former Tik Tok celebrity from Hisar, Haryana, and contestant on the reality TV programme "Big Boss," was taken to a hospital in North Goa on August 23, one day after his arrival in the western state.

Five people have been detained by the state police thus far in connection with the investigation. Among them are two Phogat associates who have been accused of murder.

In a press conference with reporters in Panaji, Sawant revealed that Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had already contacted him to ask for a thorough probe into the case.

The Phogat family wants the CBI to handle the matter, Sawant revealed.

"I don't have any issue with it. After all formalities today, if required, will give this case to the CBI," the Goa CM said.
