India has navigated multiple global shocks that tested its resilience and has emerged stronger, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Saturday.

Addressing the 15th Annual Convocation of Indian Institute of Management Raipur in Chhattisgarh, he said, “No one can dispute that the multiple global shocks that have recently tested our resilience, and that India has come through that solidly. We have managed both domestic and external challenges fairly successfully.”

Highlighting the changing global landscape, Jaishankar said the world is undergoing structural turbulence, with shifts in power and influence among nations. He noted that developments in technology, energy, military capabilities and connectivity have intensified competition, with countries increasingly leveraging — and at times weaponising — these domains.

“The world is then confronted with the prospect of securing itself in an increasingly volatile and unpredictable environment,” he said.

Addressing the graduating students, the minister said they are entering a world shaped by significant disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic, global conflicts and climate change, all of which have had a deep impact on societies.

He added that the past decade of progress, improved access to technology and globalisation has better connected India to the world, while fostering confidence about the country’s growth trajectory. “There is an optimism in our society that is lacking in many other parts of the world,” he said, pointing to India’s position among the top five global economies.
