CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, and Saurav Das ask Delhi Police to give a date for peaceful Jantar Mantar protests within 24 hours

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) signalled fresh protests at Jantar Mantar, urging Delhi Police to assign a date within 24 hours, else the youth-led movement will announce their own protest call.

CJP leaders, including Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and Ratna Singh will visit Parliamentary Street Police Station at 10 am on Monday to seek a date for a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar, Ranka said in a post on X.

"Delhi Police can give us a date for Jantar Mantar in 24 hours, or we will announce our own protest call," CJP said, adding that Ranka, Das, Singh and other CJP leaders would visit the police station to seek permission.

Dipke earlier said, "We will take to the streets again; we will not be intimidated by people like Amit Shah and Modi. Throw us in jail not just once, but a hundred times." Speaking in Nagpur, he called the police "goons in uniform."

The fresh protest call comes after CJP had planned a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

However, Delhi Police detained CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, Ranka and Das as their flight landed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The CJP leaders alleged that they were forcibly removed from the aircraft and taken into custody without being shown written grounds for their detention.

Extensive security arrangements and restrictions were placed across the national capital ahead of the proposed demonstration, with the CJP accusing the authorities of preventing the protesters from reaching the designated protest site at Jantar Mantar.

Dozens of CJP supporters detained in Mumbai

CJP supporters gathered in Mumbai's Shivaji Park area against CEC Gyanesh Kumar as protests intensified on Sunday after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and MNS' Amit Thackeray arrived with a huge crowd of hundreds, triggering sit-ins and sloganeering in the region.

The police detained dozens of people, including activist Anjali Damania, who had arrived to take part in the protest.

Later in the evening, Aaditya said all protesters detained at different police stations had been released.

The Thackeray cousins, along with supporters, reached the vicinity of the iconic ground in the evening, slamming the "cowardly" and "dictatorial" BJP governments at the Centre and Maharashtra and seeking the release of those detained.

The leaders and workers who slammed the "cowardly" and "dictatorial" BJP governments at the Centre and Maharashtra demonstrated outside Shivaji Park police station, where most of the detainees had been taken.

Aaditya, joined by brother Tejas Thackeray, claimed that police had attacked and manhandled Shiv Sainiks, including women, outside Sena Bhavan nearby.

He said Amit Thackeray was also detained during the protests in Mumbai.
