"I will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir soon," he told news channels after sending his resignation letter to party supremo Sonia Gandhi.
"I will be setting up my outfit in Jammu and Kashmir soon. I will not be joining the BJP," Azad added.
Ending his five-decade long association with the grand old party, Azad said that the Congress was comprehensively destroyed and held Rahul Gandhi responsible for "demolishing" its entire consultative mechanism.
Meanwhile, Azad, in his five-page resignation letter, also stated his intention to perpetuate the ideals he dedicated his entire adult life for outside the formal fold of the Congress.
Reacting to Azad's resignation, the Congress said that Azad's DNA had been "Modi-fied", while and linking his resignation to the end of his Rajya Sabha tenure.
