Gayatri Mantra a path to complete transformation: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the transformative effects of the Gayatri Mantra during the Shatabdi Samaroh 2026 event. He stated that it improves positive thinking, courage, and decision-making abilities in individuals.

Amit Shah says the Gayatri Mantra can bring complete transformation by improving positive qualities, memory, courage and decision-making abilities.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the Gayatri Mantra could bring complete transformation in individuals by awakening positive qualities and helping them overcome negative traits. Addressing the Shatabdi Samaroh 2026 organised by the Akhil Vishwa Gayatri Pariwar in New Delhi, Shah said the mantra had helped many young people improve their thinking, courage, memory, interpretation and decision-making abilities, a PTI report stated. Shah said the Gayatri Mantra should not be seen merely as a religious or spiritual ritual. He described it as a means of personal transformation and said its teachings could help individuals develop qualities that contribute to their growth.

"Based on my experience, I believe the Gayatri Mantra is the path to complete transformation. It is not merely a religious or spiritual ritual," he said.

How Gayatri Mantra can help develop positive qualities

Explaining the significance of the mantra, Shah said its 24 letters were connected with 24 auspicious powers. He said awakening these powers could help suppress negative qualities and bring out positive attributes in individuals.

"Taking the 24 letters of the Gayatri Mantra as the foundation and receiving the sanskar (values) of its pure pronunciation from one's Guru, if we awaken the 24 auspicious powers, the inauspicious powers lying within us are subdued and the auspicious powers emerge," he said.

The Home Minister listed foresight, restraint, austerity, courage, discrimination, intellect, protection, production, service, vitality, love, valour and concentration among these 24 qualities.

He said individuals who developed these qualities would automatically find the path to liberation.

Amit Shah credits Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya for spreading Gayatri Mantra

Shah credited Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya with taking the teachings of the Gayatri Mantra to 15 crore families across the world.

"By generating faith in the Gayatri Mantra and establishing the tradition of its pure pronunciation, he not only uplifted the lives of individuals but also gave Indian spirituality and spiritual power a new life for the next hundred years," Shah said.

The event marked 100 years of the birth of Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma and the manifestation of 'Akhand Jyoti' (uninterrupted flame), according to a statement from the Home Ministry.

It also marked 100 years of the 'sadhana' of Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya.

Shah described these three milestones as the confluence of three sacred streams. He said the year represented completeness in India's cultural and spiritual journey.

"The flame that was lit 100 years ago has today become a symbol of welfare for countless people across more than 100 countries and in over 15 crore families," he said.

Shah speaks about Gayatri Pariwar's next phase

Shah also referred to a four-day conference held in Haridwar in January this year. He said members of the Gayatri Pariwar had come together during the conference and committed themselves to the mission represented by the Jyoti.

He said two important events were taking place as part of the next phase of the movement.

"Today, in the next stage of the same journey, two important events are taking place. The first is the 'Deep Mahayajna', which symbolises sacrifice, cooperation and dedication. Every lamp that is lit is a resolve that we shall use our strength for society, spirituality and the nation," he said.

Referring to the work of the Gayatri Pariwar, Shah said everyone had a responsibility to carry the movement forward and guide the world towards righteousness.

"This duty is to gather the auspicious forces of the entire world and guide the world onto the path of righteousness. We must continue this work until the last moment of our lives," he said.

Union Minister Durgadas Uikey, Gayatri Pariwar Dalnayak Dr Chinmay Pandya and several other dignitaries attended the ceremony, the Home Ministry statement said.
