Gautam Gambhir opens up on his equation with Virat Kohli: 'It's between two mature individuals...'
Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach of Team India, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar held their first joint press conference on Monday, sharing their vision and recent strategic decisions for the team.

Gambhir highlighted his commitment to the progress of Indian cricket, emphasising that the team's success is his top priority over any personal goals. He praised the achievements of his predecessor, Rahul Dravid, and expressed his intent to build on the team's legacy of significant accomplishments.

During the conference, Gambhir addressed his relationship with Virat Kohli, stating, "What kind of a relationship with Virat Kohli is not for TRP. At the moment, we are representing India, we are representing 140 crore Indians."

"We have an excellent relationship with him off the field. But, it's not for the public. It's not important how many chats I've had with him during or after the game. He is a thorough professional, a world-class athlete, and hopefully he will continue that way," the head coach added.

Ajit Agarkar clarified the leadership and selection decisions, including the appointment of Suryakumar Yadav as the T20I captain and the decision to rest Ravindra Jadeja for the Sri Lanka series.

Regarding the captaincy choice, Agarkar explained, "Suryakumar Yadav was made the captain because he is one of the most deserving candidates. We have been getting feedback from the dressing room. He has got a great cricket brain, he is one of the best T20 batters in the world, and the one who is likely to play all the games. Hardik is a very important player. He has the skill sets which are very difficult to find. Fitness has been a challenge. That was the thought behind it. We wanted the one who is available all the time. Surya has got the necessary quality that you need to succeed as a captain."
