A day after the Raipur police arrested six persons for allegedly cheating in the national-level Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) entrance examination, investigators suspect that the gang may be operating across several states and may have been involved in facilitating other national-level examinations. Eight mobile phones and 7 bluetooth devices were seized on Sunday.

Relying on a technical probe, the cops have found WhatsApp chats from various contacts from the mobiles seized after the arrest. Police has also not ruled out involvement of a kingpin facilitating cheating using sophisticated gadgets in exams.

In a statement on Sunday, Raipur police said that during the national-level GATE examination, the cops received credible information that certain individuals had planned to facilitate cheating by providing unfair assistance to candidates through electronic devices.

Police kept watch around the exam centre and intercepted suspects carrying electronic devices near the ION Digital Zone, Sarona. The devices were seized and the suspects detained for questioning.
