Mumbai: Thirteen personnel of the Mumbai Fire Brigade have been awarded the President's Medal for Gallantry for their exemplary role in rescuing 582 passengers stranded in a stalled Monorail in August 2025.

A Monorail train broke down and came to a halt at a height of 40 to 50 feet above the ground near Mysore Colony Station in suburban Chembur on August 10, 2025. Fire brigade personnel carried out a rescue operation risking their lives and successfully evacuated the passengers.

In recognition of their exceptional performance and devotion to duty, the gallantry medal was announced for 13 personnel of Vikhroli, Dadar, Fort, Chembur and Wadala fire stations on the occasion of Independence Day, said the release issued by the Fire Brigade.


Assistant Divisional Fire Officer R N Ambulgekar, Deputy Assistant Divisional Fire Officer A V Pawar, Divisional Fire Officer M K Sawant, Station Officers I K Kamble, V H Pawar and D A Bhosale, machine operators Rajesh Vishnu Rane and Mahesh Anand Gudalkar, and Firemen Ramesh Jivan Koli, Harshal Shankar Katke, Chintamani Shivaji Khandekar, Vicky Nagesh Saravde and Sudarshan Ghanshyam Pawade have been selected for the medal.
