New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described the Gaganyaan mission as the first "Made in India" space project where the "moment, the countdown and the rocket" will be of the country. During his visit to the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre at Thiruvananthapuram, he bestowed "astronaut wings" on the four shortlisted pilots whose names were revealed officially at the programme and hailed them as the "shakti (power)" that will carry the aspirations of all Indians.

Modi also emphasised that any space mission in India is not possible without the stellar contribution of women scientists.

The prime minister bestowed the "astronaut wings" on the four pilots - Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla.
