The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will soon start issuing annual passes to commuters priced at Rs 3000. These passes were announced by Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, who said they will be valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips—whichever comes first.

“This pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans,” the Minister said while adding that passing through one Toll Plaza will count as one trip.

Gadkari said commuters would have usually paid around Rs 10,000 for such trips. These FASTag-based Annual Passes will be effective from August 15 this year.

While FASTag is primarily used for paying toll on highways, it also finds application across non-NHAI services such as for paying parking fees. Officials said non-NHAI toll payments will continue to be deducted from the available funds in these FASTags.

“The annual pass is not applicable for toll payments on state highways,” Gadkari clarified while noting the annual pass will enable seamless and cost-effective travel across National Highways throughout the country.

“A dedicated link for activation and renewal will soon be made available on the Rajmarg Yatra App as well as on the official websites of NHAI and the Roads Ministry,” the minister added.
