Actor Anupam Kher has joined a growing list of passengers affected by widespread flight disruptions as dense fog continues to hit air travel across north India, grounding several flights operated by IndiGo, including at Delhi airport.

Kher’s travel plans were disrupted after his connecting IndiGo flight from Varanasi to Khajuraho was cancelled, forcing him to put his journey to the Khajuraho International Film Festival briefly on hold.

Taking to Instagram, the veteran actor shared his frustration over the cancellation while maintaining a light-hearted tone.

“FLIGHT CANCELED! My Grandfather used to say, ‘Don't go through a problem twice! Once by thinking about it, and once by going through it!’ Came to #Varanasi by @indigo.6e! Was to take a connecting flight to #Khajuraho which got cancelled! Frustrating!” Kher wrote.

Kher said he was considering travelling by train instead and decided to make the most of his unplanned halt in Varanasi.

“Decided to make the best of it! So will have some nice kachori/chaat/gulab jamun. And also will pray at #Vishwanath ji temple! Har Har Mahadev!” he added.

The flight cancellation comes amid severe weather-related disruptions affecting airport operations across northern India.

In a statement, IndiGo said low visibility caused by dense fog has forced airlines to delay or cancel flights in the interest of passenger safety.

“Low visibility (below minima), due to dense fog, has severely impacted operations at Delhi and other airport across northern India, which is unfortunately beyond our control. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Delhi airport, in line with established safety protocols,” an IndiGo spokesperson said.

The airline said that while operations are being adjusted based on prevailing weather conditions, some flights may face delays and others may be cancelled proactively to avoid long waiting times at airports.

“While operations adjust to the prevailing weather, some flights may experience delays while a few others may be proactively cancelled through the day to prioritise safety and help minimise extended waiting at the airport,” the spokesperson added.

IndiGo said it has issued advisories to passengers and is proactively communicating flight status updates.

“We have issued advisories to our customers and proactively informing them, to minimise inconvenience. We request customers to also stay updated on their flight status via our website or mobile application as there can be some consequential delays too. Our teams remain available to assist our customers at every step of the journey and ensure continued support,” the airline said.

Despite the travel hiccup, Kher is expected to reach Khajuraho for the film festival, scheduled to be held from December 16 to December 22, 2025. His film Tanvi The Great will be screened at the festival, which will also see the presence of noted film personalities including Saurabh Shukla, Sushmita Mukherjee, Subhash Sehgal and Chandraprakash Dwivedi.

Directed by Anupam Kher, Tanvi The Great stars Shubhangi Dutt in the lead role of Tanvi Raina and explores themes of autism and the Indian Army. The story follows a young girl inspired by her late father’s service in the armed forces, as she dreams of following in his footsteps.

The film also features Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani and Karan Tacker in key roles. It has been screened at international festivals in Cannes, New York, Houston and London, and received standing ovations at special screenings held at the National Defence Academy and Southern Command in Pune.
