He added that India has also designed and manufactured its own 4G stack, which has been deployed across 1 lakh towers.
Scindia was speaking at The Kautilya Economic Conclave.
"We used to be importers of mobile phones. Ninety-five per cent of the mobile phones that we used in this country were imported. We used to produce close to about ₹20,000 crore of mobile phones, which is roughly about $2 billion to $2.5 billion. Today, we produce ₹6.27 lakh crore of mobile phones, roughly $30 billion," the minister said.
Scindia said that over the last decade, India's broadband user base has grown from 60 million to more than 1 billion, while the number of internet users has risen to 1.2 billion and mobile subscribers to 1.35 billion. The target now is to have 1 billion 5G users by 2030, the minister said.
The expansion of connectivity has enabled citizens to access digital financial services such as UPI, with India accounting for 49% of global real-time digital payment volumes, he said.
