A security guard was arrested on Saturday in connection with the gang-rape of a woman student at a South Kolkata law college, taking the total number of arrests to four. A five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under ACP Pradip Kumar Ghosal of the South Suburban Division.

A medical examination confirmed sexual assault, neck bruises, injuries on the chest and use of force, sources told ET. CCTV footage from the college is being analysed. A video reportedly used to blackmail the victim, as mentioned in her FIR, was found on one of the accused's phones. A forensic team visited the site and recovered a hockey stick, which the victim said was used in an attempt to assault her.

The arrested guard, who worked the second shift, is said to be the sole witness, as per the victim's complaint. He allegedly failed to alert authorities. The guard from the morning shift is also being interrogated.

The three accused arrested earlier - Monojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay - reportedly have links to the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). Mishra, a former student, was working temporarily at the college. His pictures with senior Trinamool leaders are circulating online. The trio has been remanded to police custody till July 1.888

West Bengal education minister Bratya Basu expressed shock over the incident and directed the college to convene a governing body meeting and submit a report to the education department by next week, with a focus on campus security.

Meanwhile, NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the state Chief Secretary seeking police support to facilitate access for NCW member Archana Mujumdar to the victim and her family.
