Former Rajasthan DIG joins law firm Capstone Legal to head its white-collar crime practice

Lalit Maheshwari, former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Anti Corruption Bureau of Rajasthan is joining Jaipur-based boutique firm Capstone Legal to head its white-collar crime practice.

About three-decade veteran Maheshwari is also a qualified Insolvency Resolution professional. His last posting was as Deputy Inspector General of Police, State of Rajasthan.

“We have focussed on white-collar crime and corporate fraud as key practice areas over the past seven years,” said Vagish Kumar Singh, Managing Partner, Capstone Legal. “Maheshwari’s addition to our team will be helpful to our clients who would benefit from his long experience in law enforcement as a senior police officer.”


Domestic firms are scaling up their teams in practices such as white-collar crime, due-diligence, anti-bribery, forensic investigation and risk consulting.

Recently, a white-collar crime and dispute resolution firm MZM Legal announced the joining of Mohammad Shine as a partner in its criminal litigation practice.

According to Maheshwari, his experience in Indian Police Service (IPS) will help him to look at the broader picture, which will help the firm to shape a pragmatic advisory vertical. “I am also an insolvency professional and Capstone, with its litigation and corporate advisory was a natural choice to start afresh as a counsel,” said Maheshwari.

Deloitte in its December 2020 report said, ‘India Corporate Fraud Perception Survey’ has indicated that about 80.3% of respondents indicated that frauds would rise in the future, dominated by cybercrime owing to large-scale remote working arrangements and change in business models.
