A former navy-man was murdered and his body was chopped into six pieces and dumped in a number of places allegedly by his son in South 24 Parganas district's Baruipur, a crime similar to the brutal killing of Shraddha Walkar in New Delhi.

Police arrested the ex-navy man Ujjwal Chakraborty's wife Shyamoli Chakraborty and his son Joy Chakraborty on Saturday. "We were victims of domestic violence and torture. My husband was addicted to alcohol and used to torture us," Shyamoli Chakraborty said, while she was taken away by police.

Ujjwal Chakraborty (55) had retired from the navy about 12 years ago. According to the police sources, Chakraborty had scuffle with his son on the night of the murder. "Chakraborty had allegedly slapped his son, who retaliated and pushed his father. Following the scuffle, Ujjwal Chakraborty fell unconscious after hitting his head against a chair. The son then strangled him to death," the police officer said.

"After killing Chakraborty, his wife and son reportedly took his body to the bathroom. The son then used a hacksaw from his carpentry kit and allegedly cut the body into six pieces and then dumped them in several location and around their neighbourhood in plastic packets," the police officer said.

Police sources said that the murder has similarity with the Sraddha murder case.

"The son carried the body parts wrapped in plastic in at least six trips on his bi-cycle and dumped them around 500 m away at Khas Mallickpur and Dehimedan Malla areas, police sources said.

The son was taken by police today and search operation was conducted in the pond and forested areas of Khas Mallickpur.

The mother son duo came under police suspicion when they lodged a missing diary in the wee hours of November 15.

Initial probe revealed that Chakraborty had refused his son an amount of Rs 3,000 to appear in an examination, following which there was scuffle between the two that led to the murder.

It is pertinent to mention that Shraddha Walkar had been brutally killed and her body was chopped into 35 pieces by her live-in partner Aftab Poonawalla in Delhi.
